HISTORIC H & H BUILDING
SOLD IN CAPE GIRARDEAU...
H & H Building - Broadway & Fountain Streets
One of Cape Girardeau's most historic buildings recently sold, the H & H Office Building located at Broadway and Fountain Streets. Ameren UE the owner sold four of the five story structure to Jon and Jeri Wyman. The Wyman's are primarily restaurateurs with ownership of both the Royal 'N Orleans and Mollies Restaurants, both fine dining establishments located in the historic sections of downtown Cape.
In recent years the Cape entrepreneurs have also branched out into other downtown enterprises including Europas Gourmet Market, a combination coffee/cappuccino bar, eatery, catering service with a large offering of gourmet food, wine and cheeses. They also acquired the original A & P Grocery Store building (most recently occupied by Save-A-Lot) on Spanish Street in recent years and have plans for converting it to an Italian restaurant at some time in the future.
Records indicate the H & H Building was completed in 1908 and contains over 50,000 square feet. The five story masonry steel framed building with a basement in it's heyday housed some of the most prestigious businesses in Southeast Missouri.
In recent years, most of the buildings tenants have relocated to other areas of the city. The Oliver Law firm still occupies and owns it's floor in the building and was not included in the purchase. The Wyman's are formulating plans for renovations of the structure and intend on making further announcements in the future. No sales price for disclosed.
The H & H Building is also located directly across Fountain Street from the old Marquette Hotel. The Bullock family is attempting to sell the deteriorated and condemned historic property to a buyer who will renovate it before a city imposed deadline to have it razed.
