A CAPE GIRARDEAU

INDUSTRIAL SUCCESS STORY...

1st Tire & Wheel in Six Thirty Industrial Park - Cape Girardeau

A vision some years ago by several Cape Girardeau businessmen has resulted in over 19 companies to locate in what was formerly farm land and cattle pastures.  Six Thirty Industrial Park in Cape Girardeau's south side of the city has laid claim to several industrial clients including the Dana Corporation, Federal Express, Charter Communication, Mid-South Steel, First Tire and Wheel, Ryder Truck Rental, Day Transfer, Cape Central Publishing, Prax-Air, Elfrink Transportation, Cotner Electric, Jim Wilson Company and the list goes on.

The vision included providing building sites of various sizes where existing and new companies to Cape could locate. This location would have the proper infrastructure, zoning and easy access to the region's interstate, airport, rail roads and riverport.  The industrial park area met that criteria and it's success has been evident by companies purchasing land and locating there.

The Dana Corporation's spicer axle plant was the very first industrial user.  Built back in 1988, it catapulted other companies to look into the area that had attractive land prices,  brand new streets, city services and an enterprise zone classification.

Businesses building in 2000 includes Jim Wilson Company with a brand new 90,000 square foot auto parts distribution center, Rental Service Corporation, a national commercial equipment rental outlet, Charter Communication with a satellite cable technical hub center for the entire region.

Several companies own land in the industrial park, but have not yet built their facilities including the City of Cape Girardeau, Santie Wholesale Oil, Heartland Industries and a project to include a public warehouse operation next to Dana.

Tom Kelsey, broker for Lorimont Place, Ltd., who exclusively represents the developer, Six Thirty, Inc. and  who in recent years has handled many of the industrial transactions says that prospects for more businesses to locate there is very good. Kelsey said he is very pleased with the high interest level in the development and is currently working with several prospects for sites.

The Cape Girardeau based commercial real estate broker says in addition to his own marketing activity for prospects,  he also works very closely with several agencies including the area Chamber of Commerce's organizations, state and regional industrial recruitment associations and others to keep track of various companies and industries who are interested in having a presence in the Southeast Missouri area.
