IN CAPE GIRARDEAU
Popeye's Chicken on William Street in Cape Girardeau
Popeye's Chicken & Biscuits newest restaurant will open
in Cape Girardeau offering the chain restaurant's classic fried
chicken. Mid-America Hotels, long-time operators of the area's
Burger King Restaurants purchased the franchise rights for the entire Southeast
Missouri region.
Their first Popeye's restaurant, complete with a drive-through has opened on
William Street near the I-55 interchange in the city's newest eating Mecca
between the Olive Garden and Panera Bread restaurants. Several other food
establishments are in the immediate vicinity.
More than 1,800 Popeye's restaurants are in operation in 27 countries
according to information furnished by the franchise. The Cape developer
has plans for additional units in the area. It is speculated that Poplar
Bluff will be the next location.
The restaurant chain began in New Orleans in 1972. Founder Al Copeland named his business after Popeye Doyle, a character in the movie "The French Connection.
