BENTON RACE TRACK

TO RE-OPEN...

Oval Race Track in Benton, Missouri

Race enthusiasts were thrilled to learn that the former Missouri International Racepark, located south of Cape Girardeau and directly of east of Interstate55 near Benton would re-open in the spring.

The three-eighth mile oval track with grandstand seating capacity of about 4,700 will be renamed Auto Tire and Parts Racepark and will be owned and operated by DSF Motor Sports with co-owner Doug Friese serving as track president.  A spokesman for the for the new ownership said a late April opening is planned for the racing facility that originally opened in 1991 and operated until closing in 1997.

Plans are to have Saturday night events featuring sprint, open-wheel, modified, pure street and cruiser classifications.  Also included with the sale was a NHRA sanctioned drag strip that is also planned to re-open.

The new owners also plan to develop a motocross, supercross and four-wheel racing facility on a 100-acre land parcel adjoining the present race facility. The exact time table for this expansion is uncertain since the owners will concentrate on getting the present race track up and going in time for a spring start.

The purchase was made from the Simpson family of Scott City, who originally built and opened the racetrack in 1991.  Known as one of the best racing facilities in the Midwest, the track was host several times to special events such as the  World of Outlaw Racing and others.  Local racing fans and drivers have had to travel to Farmington, Malden, Fredericktown and Western Kentucky to participate and follow this sport.
