NEW AIRCRAFT MANUFACTURING PLANT TO CAPE
A Luscombe Airplane - To be Made in Cape? Cape Girardeau is the site of a new aircraft manufacturing facility. Renaissance Aircraft, will soon be turning out an updated version of the Luscombe, a two-seat, single aircraft. The new plant could eventually create as many as 200 jobs here. Renaissance, a Delaware based company secured $2.1 million in bonds from the city to build a 50,000 square foot building on land at the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport. Other enticements in the funding package include funds for furniture, fixtures, equipment, and other infrastructure that the new company will need for the proposed airport site. The manufacturing company owns the rights to building the plane that was
popular in the 1940's and 1950's and says it is anxious to start production of
the revamped and improved model in the Southeast Missouri city. Company
officials were quoted as saying they will start with approximately 30 employees
initially and employ as many as 200 in the future. Negotiations for the new plant have been going on since June, 2000 and both the city and Renaissance have announced the airplane manufacturer should be in their new manufacturing facility by the fall of 2002. |
