RUST NEWSPAPERS ANNOUNCE
MANAGEMENT CHANGE...
Rust Communications, which operates the Southeast Missourian Newspaper in Cape Girardeau along with interests in more than 40 other newspapers in the Midwest made a significant announcement regarding the future management of the publishing enterprise at a recent company meeting.
Gary Rust, who founded and enlarged the newspaper operation from one weekly newspaper in Cape Girardeau in the early 1960's to 13 dailies, 33 weeklies, 10 shoppers and 12 separate printing operations today has appointed his sons, Jon K. Rust, 33 and Rex D. Rust, 31 to key management roles as Co-Presidents.
The elder Rust will continue to be active in the publishing business and has taken the title of chairman of the Rust Communication board with Wally Lage serving as CEO and Dick Caldwell as CFO.
The younger Rusts, as Co-Presidents of Rust Communications will divide responsibilities in the company with Rex focusing on corporate management, finance and acquisition issues. Jon Rust will head up the network technology, operational management, training and news and editorial responsibilities.
The Rust family is well known in the newspaper business with Gary Rust serving on several newspaper industry boards and has also received a number of publisher awards throughout his 30 year career. As an avid airplane pilot, he plans to spend more time flying and visiting individual newspapers.
