SOUTHEAST MISSOURI PORT AUTHORITY CONTINUES TO GROW...
View of Port Authority Near Scott City, Missouri Southeast Missouri's Port Authority was originally built through the joint cooperation of Cape Girardeau and Scott Counties and is presently home to several businesses, who primarily rely on river transportation as their mainstay.. The port's slack water harbor, located along the Mississippi River was completed in 1988. The general cargo dock (350' x 220') followed in 1990. The harbor is 1800 feet long by 230 feet wide (at its bottom). The harbor is designed to maintain the same depth of water as the navigation channel in the Mississippi River itself. The harbor is dredged by the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers as part of the agreement under which the harbor was built. Another enhancement to it's transportation services is Semo Port Railroad, Inc., which is a common carrier switching railroad which serves Semo Port and nearby industries. It connects with the two major western rail systems, Union Pacific Railroad and the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway. The SE is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Semo Port. The site is also very close to Interstate 55, Cape Girardeau Regional Airport and two major railroads. Companies with operations at the growing river port include Girardeau Stevedores, Riverport Terminals, Consolidated Grain and Barge, First Missouri Terminals and several others. Long time companies adjoining the port include Lone Star Industries, Texas Eastern and Tower Rock Quarry. Additional information about this facility can be found at: http://www.semoport.com |
