$50 MILLION DOLLAR RIVER

CAMPUS PROJECT UNDER CONSTRUCTION

SEMO University River Campus Project in Cape Girardeau

Southeast Missouri University is converting a former Catholic Seminary built in 1843 into a River Campus facility featuring a fine arts school.  The $50 million dollar project is being financed by the state, the city of Cape Girardeau, and donations raised by the university foundation.  The site is located on the Mississippi River adjacent to the new Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge.

Extensive renovations are being completed to the 160 year old historic brick seminary building to turn it into faculty offices, classrooms and a recital hall. New construction will include an 80,000-square-foot theater building, a 14,000-square-foot regional history and art museum and a 5,000-square-foot welcome center, all under one roof with a shared lobby.

Renovations to the historic seminary building should be concluded by March 2007. The new theater/museum building should be largely completed by June 2007. The university plans to open the River Campus for classes in August 2007.
